Print and
Develop: Photography in the 21st Century
(March 13 - May 1, 2011)
By the 1800’s, a succession of inventions
and discoveries led to great advances in gathering light and
the imagery it captures. As photography is going through
another evolution, the digital era, it’s time to also look
back upon its history. Photography revolutionized the world
of imagery and what we find interesting, or believable, in
“pictures”. From the early examples of daguerreotypes and
tintypes, the early albumen coated copies and other
developed papers, through the years of Kodak and Polaroid
domination, we have arrived at a new generation of ink-jet
“giclee” and toner machines. The digital camera and computer
programs that can store, animate, alter or transmit new
images have allowed new experiments and discovery for those
working in this field.
Historic
and contemporary works were exhibited here from our archives
and are complimented by the various styles from thirteen
other Montana photographers.
