Jennifer Pulchinski's "WE" &
MT Association of Weavers & Spinners: "Living Treasures" (March 14 - April 25, 2010)

Jennifer Pulchinski’s “WE” features bigger than life pastel figures drawn with soft pastel, charcoal, pencil and sometimes pen on hot pressed paper. A commentary on the way in which we view ourselves, Pulchinski’s collaged human traits are combined to bring out a certain feeling of longing, wanting and craving for attention. She scours modern icons like a Dr. Frankenstein, putting together the parts to create a whole. Pulchinski’s states, “My quick answer to what I draw is portraits; although I have been told many times that they are so much more than a portrait...I am always pleased to find I captured something that words have a hard time explaining.”

Founded over thirty year ago, the Montana Association of Weavers and Spinners (MAWS) is a non-profit organization created to "foster communication between individuals and groups engaged in hand weaving and hand spinning." Since 1992, MAWS has been honoring members who have demonstrated a lifelong contribution to the development of fiber arts including excellent craftsmanship, a source of inspiration and knowledge to others and have contributed to the development of the fiber arts on a state, regional, and/or national level. These people have been given the special recognition of “Living Treasures”.
